Maarten De Gussem received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Ghent University (Belgium) in 2000 with his thesis on Infectious Bursal Disease Virus at the University of Arkansas, USA. He worked over one year as poultry field vet in a large poultry veterinarian group practice, DEGUDAP (in France, The Netherlands and Belgium), dealing with layers, breeders, broilers and turkeys. Later, Maarten De Gussem joined Janssen Animal Health, division of J&J Global Poultry Technical Manager in 2001, servicing all major poultry producers on all continents, focused on coccidiosis, gut health, helminthosis, histomonosis and red mite. In 2006, Maarten De Gussem was asked to join Alpharma Animal Health as Technical Manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa. After 6 months he also got responsibility over Global Business Development for Anticoccidials. During this period he mainly dealt with (alternative and classic) growth promoters, gut health, coccidiosis, anticoccidials and therapeutic antimicrobials. In 2009, Maarten De Gussem founded Vetworks, servicing the poultry industry with a global team of specialists and provides support on poultry health topics all over the world, with focus on mycoplasmosis, general gut health and coccidiosis.
